Good Game

Entry 609, on 2007-09-17 at 22:49:39 (Rating 1, Activities)

In the weekend I went to a rugby game at our local sports stadium, Carisbrook. That may not sound like a big deal, and I guess it isn't, but its years since I had been to a game, and our team hasn't been playing that well this year, so I thought it might just be a bit of a chore which I would do and maybe sneak away at half time. If you're wondering why I went at all, it was because my son was involved in one of the pre-game entertainment activities.

Anyway, I've got to report that it was actually a really good experience. The fact that Otago won was a big bonus of course, but the game was worth watching apart from that. So I'm now wondering whether I should go to other games in the future.

Our current stadium can seat about 35,000 and there must have been about one thousand there, so it was a pretty miserable attendance. The city council want to build a new stadium at huge expense, so it is a worry that the crowds might not really exist to make it worthwhile. Maybe with a modern, comfortable stadium people might be more willing to make the effort to watch games live instead of on television, but its hard to know if that really would happen.

Anyway, if you are reading this blog and live in Dunedin make sure you go to a match at Carisbrook every now and again. You might have become apathetic about watching sport like I was but if you happen to strike a good game you might be glad you went.
